M1 launches Movie Ticketing service with Eng Wah cinemas

SINGAPORE, 3 February 2005 - M1 customers who can already use their phones to read reviews and synopses and watch trailers of the latest movies on M1’s mobile portal, MiWorld, will now be able to take that final wireless step before going to the cinema – book and pay for their tickets.

In a tie-up with the Eng Wah group of cinemas, M1 has launched a Movie Ticketing service in the MiWorld portal that allows customers to book their tickets and choose the flexibility of paying by either credit card or cash.

Unlike the traditional voice-prompt telephone booking system, Movie Ticketing provides a visually rich and convenient on-line movie booking experience on the go - from selecting the movie to reading the review, watching the trailer and booking and paying for the tickets. To enjoy the service, M1 customers simply have to log on MiWorld Mobile on their mobile phones, select “Movies + Music” icon and click on the “Movies” link.

A S$1.00 booking fee will be levied for every successful transaction. For credit card booking, both the ticket price and the booking fee will be charged to the credit card. For cash booking, the ticket price will be paid over the cinema counter while the booking fee will be charged to the customer’s monthly M1 bill.

“This new service enhances the pre-movie experience of the M1 customer before he even steps into the cinema. By allowing him to purchase tickets after sampling and selecting the movie, it combines the key features of Internet and phone ticketing. It is a convenient and time efficient mobile solution that provides another ticketing option for our movie fans,” said P Subramaniam, M1’s Director of Sales & Marketing.

“We are very excited to be collaborating with M1. Singaporeans are extremely tech-savvy these days and already rely heavily on their mobile phones for a great number of conveniences. This service offers the customer easy and immediate access to the latest in movie entertainment right at his fingertips. We are proud to be the first cinema operator in Singapore to offer to our customers, a mobile Movie Ticketing service that allows the flexibility of payment via cash or credit card,” said Min-Yen Goh, Eng Wah’s Managing Director.
