THE ENG WAH ("EW") GROUP - ITS FORESIGHT AND STRATEGY
The Eng Wah Film Operations
EW operates 6 cinemas with 29 screen halls, all of which are strategically located within the town centre of densely populated HDB estates, and one, lucratively located in Singapore's largest commercial and retail complex, at Suntec City.

In keeping with market trends, EW has also increased the number of English movies being screened, and plans to further increase the number of screenings and movie choices available to its patrons by continuously searching for new sites to open more cineplexes both in Singapore and in the region.
Multi-Faceted Entertainment Centres and Redevelopment
Recognising the complementary nature of film operations and family entertainment, EW has fortified its presence in the industry by embracing the integrated entertainment concept.

In November 1994, Jubilee, in Ang Mo Kio, closed its doors for redevelopment, and metamorphosed in 1996 as Jubilee Entertainment Complex. This Miami-theme, four-storey building, has amongst its facilities - a 4-screen hall cineplex, Star Studios amusement arcade, and an array of lifestyle retail stores and fast food restaurants.

Next came Toa Payoh theatre, which underwent redevelopment in 1996, and transformed as Toa Payoh Entertainment Centre, a modern 3-storey complex, which soft-launched in late November 1997. Designed along the theme of a Hollywood movie studio set, the facilities include a 5-screen hall cineplex, Star Studios amusement arcade, lifestyle stores and numerous choices of East and West eateries.

In 1998, EW West Mall opened its doors to the residents at Bukit Batok, who welcomed this elegantly designed, Hollywood-theme cineplex. Situated within an ever-crowded shopping mall, the 6-screen hall cineplex is the neighbourhood's answer to recreation indulgence.

Also in 1998, Marina theatres drew its curtains for the final time to make way for a plush 5-screen hall cineplex at Suntec City in the same year. With its spectacular, state-of-the-art milieu, EW Suntec is today one of the finest cineplexes in town.

Then in 2000, residents in Sembawang and its surrounding estates woke up to a brand new multiplex at Sun Plaza, located just next to the Sembawang MRT station. The opening of EW Sun Plaza reflects the commitment of EW to bring movie entertainment closer to patrons' homes. A joint venture between EW and Clareville Investments Pte Ltd (the developer of Sun Plaza), the 6-screen, high-tech cineplex boasts of amenities such as Director's Club sofas and love seats.

In keeping up with EW's ambitions to intensify its presence in Singapore, the opening of EW Sun Plaza will not be its last. Mandarin, which has been closed in 1998, has received approval for redevelopment into a 6-screen entertainment complex. It is expected to arrive in style in year 2004.
